Macapá, the capital of Amapá state - Brazil

Macapá is a city in Brazil and is the capital of Amapá state. The city is located in the country's North Region. Spanish conquistadors colonized the region in the mid 16th century. Macapá itself, however, was founded on February 4, 1758. The city has few land connections to other parts of the country, owing to Amapá State's difficult terrain. The equator runs through the middle of the city, leading residents to refer to Macapá as "The capital of the middle of the world."
